BENTONVILLE, Ark., April 8, 2010 – Crystal Bridges curators Chris Crosman and Manuela Well-Off-Man will highlight recently announced paintings and sculptures in A Look at the Collection, an informal lecture and discussion from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 13. No registration is required and light refreshments will be served at the event, which will take place in the Wal-Mart Community Room in the Bentonville Public Library, located at 405 S. Main St.

More than 24 paintings and sculptures will be presented, ranging from John Mix Stanley’s vigorous genre scene The Buffalo Hunt (1855) to Romare Bearden’s Cubist-influenced Sacrifice (1941) to recently commissioned sculptures by two artists with local connections, George Dombek and Pat Musick.

“We’re excited to share the range and quality of work in our collection,” said Chris Crosman, chief curator. “There will be something of interest for everybody who comes, and we expect to stimulate some lively discussion about why we chose these particular works or art.”

The paintings and sculpture will be presented in chronological order, revealing some key developments in American art history, and connections between the works will be emphasized.

Downtown Bentonville, Inc. would like to invite you to apply to the 2010 Bentonville ArtsFest, which will be held June 11th and 12th in downtown Bentonville. Now in its 7th year, this community celebration of the arts offers visual artists an affordable opportunity to sell their art and promote their work in a city quickly becoming a regional arts epicenter.

We have made a couple of changes this year to accommodate both the needs of the visual artists and of the growing event. Held during the timeframe of last year’s Bentonville ArtWalk, the ArtsFest will include a juried visual arts component, theatre, film, music, literary and the culinary arts. At the same time, we will be producing a fall and spring Bentonville ArtWalk solely focused on the visual arts, and cu- rated within the businesses around the Downtown Square. Stay tuned for the 2010 fall ArtWalk date!

Visual artists accepted into the ArtsFest will be offered an automatic invitation to participate in the two ArtWalks, thus creating multiple opportunities to showcase your work in downtown Bentonville. We are also opening up the opportunity for artists juried into the ArtsFest to participate in our popular First Fri- day events that run March – November, as well as special Bentonville Farmers Market events. Fees and times vary for each event, and we can provide information about participation once you have been accepted into the 2010 ArtsFest.

Some new benefits to the 2010 ArtsFest include:

Expanded opportunities for indoor locations

Affordable participation fees, and lowered tent and equipment rental rates

A visual and performing artist green room with snacks, water and bathrooms

Additional marketing opportunities, including a ArtsFest dedicated web page and a four-color Artist Catalog highlighting your work

A Saturday evening ArtsFest After-Party to celebrate you!

All the specifics about the event hours, deadlines, applications and fees can be found on http://www.downtownbentonville.org. If you have any questions about the event or the process, please feel free to give us a call at 479.254.0254 or email us at gro.ellivnotnebnwotnwodnull@ofni.
